Pregnancy and Postpartum (Perinatal) Therapy

Like3.JPG

Pregnancy and Motherhood don’t always go as expected. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) are the most common complication of pregnancy, affecting nearly 20 percent of women. Symptoms of a PMAD may develop during pregnancy or in the postpartum period.

  • Depression symptoms

  • Traumatic childbirth

  • Anxiety symptoms

  • Attachment to baby

  • Adjusting to new identity

  • Challenges with adoption

  • Miscarriage and infant loss

These symptoms and complications are treatable. You deserve to feel good and there is no shame in that.

If you are experiencing difficulties adjusting to motherhood, or  want support with any of the following complications, please contact Gladys to schedule a free 20-minute phone consultation to discuss your options.

Individual Therapy

Everyone’s needs are different and so are their experiences, values and beliefs. It’s important to find a therapist you feel comfortable sharing your experiences with. As communities of color continue to push to normalize mental health awareness and support, people of color have limited options when looking for a therapist of color.

The majority of Gladys’ therapy clients are perinatal (pregnancy & postpartum) women, but Gladys also works with women of color seeking support for the following:

  • Life Transitions + adjustments

  • Depression symptoms

  • Anxiety symptoms

  • Trauma

  • Grief +Loss

  • Stress management

If you are a woman of color and are wondering if therapy may help you to meet your goals, contact Gladys to discuss your needs.

Facilitating & Speaking

Gladys work to raise awareness on important topics such as mental care, perinatal care, child sexual abuse, and increasing use of mental wellness resources for communities of color.

By empowering women, Gladys strives to guide women in the direction of self-healing and growth. She is a trained facilitator in Circle of Security-Parenting (COS-P), an attachment intervention. By incorporating COS-P into her therapeutic work, Gladys is able to share skills and feedback to parents wanting to learn different ways to engage and bond with their babies.

Gladys is also a trained facilitator in Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children child sexual abuse (CSA) prevention program for adults. She is committed to raising awareness of CSA prevalence and equipping adults with tools to prevent CSA in their communities. By sharing ways to identify signs of CSA and ways to prevent it, Gladys hopes to protect more innocent children from this heart wrenching trauma.

Currently facilitates leadership arts & wellness curriculum to youth ages 13-19 at Young Women Empowered’s LEAD program. Y-WE Lead offers young women ages 13-18 the opportunity to explore their leadership through workshops in art, performance, health and wellness. The program includes learning and community engagement opportunities that support success in school, career and life.

Gladys enjoys facilitating and sharing her experiences with others. She often shares her experiences as a first generation American, a woman of color, and social worker and therapist. She is passionate about mentoring young women, and learning from them as well. By sharing her experiences with others, Gladys hope that she will influence other women to begin their journey of self-love and growth.
